Ever wanted to do a cooking class for your kids? Maybe you’re homeschooling and want to add a little extra to the curriculum. Maybe you want to host a kids’ cooking party for your kids’ friends.
Whatever your reason is, you’ve come to the right place!
Where I Got the Idea for Doing a Cooking Class for Kids
I searched and scoured the Internet for ideas on cooking with kids, specifically teaching kids to cook.
There were a couple of different ideas, but nothing that really got me excited.
I looked into the monthly boxes that get shipped to my house, but those were a bit out of our price range, and frankly seemed a bit simplistic for the cost, AND I still had to buy all the ingredients- so even more $$!
Then, I remembered in high school, I took a cooking class and we used index cards and glued recipes to them. I still have my box of them and refer to them now and then!
Starting A Cooking Class for My Kids
So, I printed off some favorite recipes for my boys (some things I make or their grandmas make, and some I found on Pinterest).
Using Photoshop, I made sure the recipes were cropped to the size of an index card.
I bought each boy their own set of index cards and a box to put them in. They also each received an apron that I personalized with each of their names using iron-on transfer paper.
Pro Tip: Be sure to flip the names backward so they iron-on correctly!
Our first Cooking class At Home
I printed out the recipe and they cut it out and glued it to the card.
Next, we went over the recipe, got out supplies and ingredients, and then made it together.
I also printed badges on iron-on transfer paper. For each recipe they complete, they’ll get a badge that we will add to their aprons (boy scout style). We are so excited to add this to our school year!
As you can see, this specific page I printed before flipping the images, thus the reason some are crossed out to remind myself not to iron those. haha
Iron-On Patches Freebie!
Here’s a set of patches (flipped correctly) if you’d like to download your own! Simply print from your printer on iron-on transfer paper and you’re ready to cut them out and iron!
Recipe Card freebie!
And here’s the recipe already designed to fit on the front and back of an index card.
Cooking and baking together is something that we all enjoy! The boys are quite good at preparing a number of dishes and the list is growing.
They won’t have to rely on packaged meals and fast food to nourish themselves when they leave home. They’ll save money and be better fed than all their friends haha.
I’m so glad they are learning this important skill and know that it will help them the rest of their lives.

That’s great! I’m so glad! My boys love cooking- I want to create more cards and printables for cooking with them, but haven’t found the time. Maybe this year. lol
