It’s not about perfection
In every season, at every age, God is at work.
He never asks us to be self-reliant or know everything. All we are supposed to do is try and use each day to the best we can.
Some days I know I fail at this. Sometimes a whole day can go by (even a week) and I climb into bed wondering what in the world happened? How did that whole day start and finish while I just watched it go?
That’s part of life.
We don’t have to make the best possible day happen every single day. That’s madness. Perfection is just not reality.
But let’s not allow entire seasons of life to waste away just because we don’t like where we are.
I’m not the only one affected
I don’t love the toddler days. It’s a lot of cleaning up messes and potty-training, long nights and tantrums. But if I give up during these days and just wish for the future, I’ll miss the cuddles and sweet moments. And my toddler will miss a lot of things I’m called to teach and develop.
Growing pains
If I don’t try, I’ll miss growing myself as well.
If I don’t allow myself to be stretched and uncomfortable, I’ll miss out on the experiences that help me be a more compassionate, merciful person.
It’s never fun being stretched and uncomfortable, but when we start to see the BIG PICTURE of God’s plan, we can learn to have joy in the midst.
“When troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.”
James 1:2-3 (the Message)
It doesn’t make a lot of sense- Finding joy when we are in a frustrating time. But as Christians, we can find joy in knowing that when we go through things with God, He uses it to make us more mature.
If you aren’t a parent, it’s hard to give parenting advice.
If you’ve never experience child-birth, you should probably not comment on the process.
If you’ve never been through a divorce, best to not give your personal input on the matter.
Basically, going through stuff gives us the opportunity to grow and have experiences and relate to people. Don’t wish that stuff away.
Becoming a mature Christian doesn’t just happen. It takes experiences and time.
make the most of it
Each stage of life presents us with different challenges and joys that make us into the people God wants us to be. But that doesn’t happen if we sit back and watch it go by.
“He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap.”
Ecclesiastes 11:4
Every stage looks different and if we aren’t adamant, the prime of each stage will pass us right by. There is something beautiful about every stage we find ourselves in if we look for it. From childhood to our final days on Earth.
I don’t want to be caught wishing for a different past or wasting my present looking to the future.
If I don’t plant any seeds, I’ll have nothing to harvest later.
The time is now. We can’t go back and we can’t skip ahead- it’s best to find joy in the moment and pour what we can into the days we are blessed with- good and bad.
